CID to investigate hatred anchor Arnab Goswami, Maharashtra government orders
Mumbai: In the case of inciting two people to suicide, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday ordered the state CID to initiate a fresh probe against Arnab Goswami, the editor of news channel Republic TV, and two others. The Raigad police closed the case last year.
According to the Indian Express, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the CID will re-investigate the case on the request of Ananya Naik’s daughter Adanya Naik.
Let us know that in the year 2018, Anvay Naik was found dead in his bungalow in Alibag in Raigad district along with his mother Kumud Naik. In this regard, Arnab Goswami and two others were accused of abetting Anvay Naik and his mother to commit suicide.
Last year, the local police closed the case, saying that there was not enough evidence to file a charge sheet against Goswami and two others.
Anvay was the managing director of Concord Design, a Mumbai-based architectural and interior designing company, while his mother was the board director of the company.
Adanya had also alleged that the police had not even investigated Goswami’s non-payment of Rs 83 lakh to his father, which led to his father’s suicide.
Whereas Republic TV said that it has paid the dues of Concorde Design.
On Tuesday, Deshmukh tweeted, ‘Adanya Naik had complained to me that the Alibaug police had not investigated Arnab Goswami for not paying the dues from Republic TV, which led to his entrepreneur father and grandmother committing suicide in May 2018. Had taken I have ordered a CID inquiry into the matter. ‘
Raigad Superintendent of Police Anik Parskar said, “When the body was found, we had filed a case of abetment to suicide against three people. However, in April last year, we submitted a report before a court stating that there was not enough evidence to file a chargesheet against the accused.
An official said that it was learned that when Anvay committed suicide, the postmortem report indicated that Kumud was strangled. After that the police had also registered a case of murder.
The police suspected that Anvay killed his mother and then committed suicide. Kumud’s body was found on the sofa of the ground floor, while the body of Anvay was found on the first floor.
The police found a suicide note written in English, stating that Anvay and his mother took the step because their dues are not being received from Republic TV, Feroz Sheikh of SkyMedia and Nitish Sarada of SmartWorks. These three companies had dues of Rs 83 lakh, four crore and 55 lakh respectively.
An officer said that during the investigation he came to know that Anvay was in huge debt and was unable to pay the contractors’ money.
At the same time, Raigad police also came to know that Naik had filed a non-bailable case against a contractor in Mumbai as he had threatened them to repay the money.
Let us know that many cases are already registered against Arnab Goswami in Maharashtra. The cases were registered on 14 April due to a news show organized outside the Bandra railway station in Mumbai on the gathering of migrant laborers and the lynching of three people including two sadhus in Palghar, Maharashtra.
Hearing Goswami’s plea, the Supreme Court refused to quash the FIR lodged against him and hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
