Israel-Gaza war, Khan Younis Hospital was stretched : An MSF official says Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza receives several seriously injured patients almost every hour.

The number of displaced people arriving at the Nasser Medical Complex continues to increase, with new shelters being set up in the facility’s parking lot and many sleeping on the ground in the open.

The Khan Younis-based hospital, where Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) teams provide surgical care to trauma and burn patients, has also seen a constant influx of new patients, pushing its capacity to breaking point.

“The hospital receives several seriously injured patients almost every hour,” said Chris Hook, MSF’s medical coordinator in Khan Younis. “The way it is at the hospital – there’s no space left – it’s a really terrible situation. Everyone is honestly scared of what’s going to happen next.”

Israel’s military said its fighter jets and helicopters struck targets in Gaza including “tunnel shafts, command centers and weapons depots”. It admitted to “large-scale airstrikes in the Khan Younis area”.

“In a military campaign that has lasted weeks, with only brief respites, the speed and scale of the bombing continues to sink into the depths of brutality,” Hook told MSF. “Almost two million people were left without options. The only solution is an immediate and permanent cease-fire and an unlimited supply of aid to the entire Gaza Strip.
