Maharashtra government retains Ashutosh Kumbhakoni as Advocate General of State of Maharashtra


Senior Advocate Ashutosh Kumbhakoni was retained as Advocate General (AG) of Maharashtra Province after the formation of the new government, the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP coalition.
The new State government has given a second term to Advocate General (AG) Ashutosh Kumbhakoni.

The announcement issued on Monday stated, “Following the announcement of June 7, 2017, the Governor of Maharashtra is pleased to retain Ashutosh Kumbhakoni as the Advocate General of Maharashtra.”
Mr. He was re-appointed as AG on July 6, 2017. He retired six months after being appointed as a judge in 2008 in connection with his seniority. He has also held the position of First Advocate General of Maharashtra for more than three years since April 1, 2005. He is the fourth AG of the State to be appointed two and a half years ago.

Mr Kumbhakoni hails from a family of lawyers in Solapur. He represents civil society organizations, power companies, municipal companies such as Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Thane, Mumbai University, Health University, City and Industrial Development Corporation, Anti Corruption Bureau and Directors of the State government. He was also nominated as an amicus curie for issues such as farmer suicide, drought and noise pollution.
