Netanyahu’s political career was in jeopardy—his popularity was plummeting, especially among liberals, and he faced corruption charges that could have resulted in jail time. Amid this, he knew about the potential breach into Israel but still allowed the music festival to take place near a sensitive area, risking civilian lives. Hamas, with limited military capabilities like RPGs, pickup trucks, and hang gliders, couldn’t have caused the mass destruction. When the Hannibal Directive was executed, it resulted in mass casualties, murdering hundreds of Hamas fighters and 800 Israeli civilians. It’s implausible that Hamas killed its own fighters, and the majority of deaths likely resulted from Israeli firepower. Netanyahu capitalized on the chaos to maintain power, pushing for a land grab in Gaza and positioning himself as a hero, while benefiting politically from the fog of war.

Hamas’ primary objective was to take hostages for a prisoner swap as many Palestinians were held under administrative detention in Israel. Most of the fighters targeted military personnel, taking both military prisoners of war and a few civilians. While some fighters acted poorly, the majority focused on their objective. Israel, with its Apache helicopters, Hellfire missiles, and tanks, used overwhelming force that likely caused the majority of the fatalities, making it hard to discern how many civilians Hamas actually killed.

The entire event appeared premeditated, as within 24 hours there was an organized campaign of accusations against Hamas, featuring powerful imagery that outraged the international community. The international media, without qualifying anything, amplified this propaganda, justifying the ongoing slaughter of Palestinians—largely a war against women and children. Shockingly, despite the fact that much of this propaganda, promoted by the Israeli Defense Forces, was later revealed to be false, Israel continues these actions with impunity, never held accountable. Estimates suggest that as many as 200,000 people may have died, but the exact casualties in Gaza remain difficult to verify.

The fact of the matter is, Netanyahu needed a mass event. He needed a catastrophic false flag to justify the scale of his actions in Gaza. If it had been just Hamas killing a few people, it would have been easy to quantify and limited in scale. But by hiding behind the “Hannibal Directive” Netanyahu created ‘obscurity’, inflating the death toll and rallying international anger against Hamas. This not only helped paint Hamas as a terrorist group but also gave Netanyahu the leverage he needed to stay in power and justify further violence.
