BREAKING: Chief Writer, Journalist Home Borgohain is no more

Guwahati: Prominent literary figure, Assam journalist Homain Borgohin is no more. Borgohin, former president of the state’s largest literary body, Assam Sahitya Sabha, breathed his last at 6.58 am at the GNRC Hospital in Guwahati.

Leading literati have recently recovered from COVID-19.
Borgohin, who held a prominent position in the literary and intellectual field of Assam, was the Editor-in-Chief of the Assamese daily Om Neomia Barta until his death.

He was born on 7 December 1932 in Dhakukhana in Lakhimpur district. After school, Borgohin attended Cotton College and graduated from a prestigious institution.

Prior to starting his career in journalism, he was the lead novelist, columnist and short-lived officer of the Assam Civil Service (ACS). Borgohin first edited the Assamese weekly Neelachal and later Nagrig edited the weekly. Later, he worked as a Northeast correspondent for the Bengali daily Ajkal. Borgohin is also the editor of two of Assam’s leading newspapers, Assam Bani and Amar Assam.

Pitra Putra won the Sahitya Akademi Award in Assam in 1978.

His other famous literary works are Saudar Putke Nu Meli Jai, Haludhia Soray Boudhan Khai, Astrag, Subala, Atmanukhan etc.
The state has widely mourned the death of Borgohain.
